How Seasons Affect Your Engagement Session

How Seasons Affect Your Engagement Session

The engagement session is one of the most FUN parts of ALL your wedding planning! You get to dress up and snuggle together for an hour! What’s not to love?! There are lots of different aspects that go into making your engagement session as beautiful as possible. But more important than making it “beautiful,” is making sure these photos feel like YOU and that they are authentic to your love story. Since most couples book their wedding photographer 9 – 18 months in advance, that gives you some time to plan out when you’d like your engagement photos taken. I definitely recommend getting them done at least 3 months before the wedding! But if you have any wiggle room in your countdown to the wedding day, you might want to think about how seasons affect your engagement session before deciding when to take them! Every season has pros and cons!

Spring

One word: BLOSSOMS! Of course spring time will offer those gorgeous floral blossoms as a backdrop to your photos! The weather will be cooler, too, so if you prefer to wear layers or a little warmer clothing, this might be the best bet for you. Just be aware of Daylight Savings – Spring forward in March! This will affect your start time if you want sunset pictures. Spring also tends to be a bit RAINIER than other seasons. It could prove tricky to plan on sunny weather. However, rain doesn’t scare me and it shouldn’t scare you either!

Summer

Of course, summer is the HOTTEST season for engagement photos. Depending on your desires for your engagement session, this could be good OR bad! If you love to wear cute sun dresses, shorts, tank tops, etc, then this season would make the most sense for you! If you like to cover up a little more, you might want to opt for a cooler season. Summer time brings lots of greenery! …But also lots of bugs. Summer also means a very late sunset. If a later start time works better for your schedule, this could be good for you! Because summer is the warmest time, it is also the most ideal time for playing in the water. If you guys think you’d want WATER included in your session, you’ll want to plan a summer session!

Fall

Autumn brings those dreamy orange, red, and yellow tones in the trees! Fall is typically a cooler season – perfect for knee-high boots, scarves, and fun layers. In the fall, we once again have a time change with daylight savings, so you’ll have a little bit earlier sunset time. If you love crisp evenings, pumpkin spice, all things autumn – this might be the perfect season for your engagement photos.

Winter

I think it probably goes without saying that Winter is the most uniquely challenging seasons for outdoor photo sessions. However, if you love snuggling up in warm clothes, or maybe even a blanket, this could work perfectly for you! Or maybe you love Christmas and want to incorporate holiday cheer into your engagements! Winter time will have the earliest start time, as the sun sets much earlier. If you live in an area with lots of snow, the weather could be difficult to plan around. However, SNOW can make for some BEAUTIFUL portraits! If there is no snow, bare trees, and muddy ground….never fear! We will use other locations to make sure your photos are still gorgeous!
